Review of RV Rental 2016 Jayco MelbourneTo begin, Joel and Tricia, owners of this 2016 Jayco Melbourne 26 foot class C RV were very easy and enjoyable to work with. They went above and beyond in assisting with the rental process and accommodating us in meeting our personal needs for rental timelines, delivery and pickup and minor assistance on the road. As for the rental unit itself, let me start by saying that all of our previous RV experience was in a 31 foot 5th wheel trailer so any “criticisms” of this unit must be viewed with this in mind. To get it out of the way early, there weren’t any rocker-recliners in which to lounge; the dinette was of the booth-style rather than separate table and chairs; and the queen size bed was not accessible from the sides therefore requiring a run, dive, and crawl entry method at bedtime. Now the plusses: plenty of storage space (too much if you feel you have to fill every cabinet, drawer and space for a 10 day rental); the dinette slide that expanded the interior space enough to give plenty of room for easy movement in the unit and a layout that didn’t require the slide to be extended for full kitchen use while lunching on the road; a dry bathroom with a stand-up shower that accommodates a 6+ footer (but somewhat close if you need to bend down to pick up the soap); a fully equipped kitchen with a nice large refrigerator with a separate freezer compartment which required LP gas for fuel but only used 4/10s of a gallon after 950 miles of driving, and most importantly, a combination microwave/convection oven (which I didn’t know existed and am contemplating having installed at home); an easy driving/parking well maintained vehicle with excellent fuel mileage (and as an added bonus, reasonably priced diesel fuel) with plenty of power for acceleration and interstate cruising speeds. Set-up is quick and easy after a short learning period and the power automatic stabilizing jacks are an added bonus—leveling blocks were needed to raise the front of the RV, even on a level site. All tanks are of a sufficient size and do not require constant emptying/filling while on the road. Not having another vehicle available for local travel while parked was not an issue for us. We did ‘unhook’ and make a short trip one day while parked but the easy unhook/hookup process only took a few minutes so was tolerable. Stowing the interior probably took more time than exterior tasks but was still not excessive. All in all we had a very enjoyable trip and are contemplating another. To be able to travel, eat and sleep in a safe self-contained environment during this time of Covid was a real blessing.Hugh and Joyce - Sun City Georgetown
